Vaal Ni Daal

Yum yum...I love Vaal ni Daal!

Time: 30 minutes, Serves 3, Calories/Serving:120
Ingredients

  • 1 cup lima beans (rangooni vaal or any other vaal)
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste                                   
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric (harder)                                               
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder (lal marchu)                              
  • 1 tsp coriander cumin poweder (dhana jeeru)   
  • Adu marchu
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp jaggery
  • Vaghar
    • 1 tbsp oil
    • 1 tsp carom seeds (ajmo)
  • Garnish
    • Chopped coriander (dhana)

Procedure

  1. Soak the vaal, cover and set aside overnight
  2. Remove the water and wash a few times. Cook it in a cooker (about 2 whistles) with approximately 2 cups of water
  3. In a separate pot, prepare vaghar by heating oil, adding ajmo and cooking it until it swells
  4. Add cooked vaal to vaghar. Add harder, lal marchu, dhana jeeru and tamrid paste. Bring vaal to a boil.
  5. Add jiggery and cook for a few minutes

With this recipe, make sure that the tamrid and jiggery are at a 1:1 ratio. You can add more if needed to give it a delicious sweet and tangy taste
Garnish with dhana and serve with Corn Rotla or Bhakri
